Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are your trails open?

A: Unlike other areas, our trails are not typically designated as closed or open. Trails in our area open in mid-December and remain so until April 1st. It is up to the rider's discretion if they would like to ride in the current conditions. We post many updates on our Facebook page in order to assist with this decision making process.

Q: What are the benefits to joining the club?

A: Joining the club is very important to the sustainment of the club. Grooming efforts, equipment maintenance, and trail  upkeep are all very costly. In addition to grooming during the season, we often have trail projects during the summer. While we do get some assistance through the ANF funding, it is very minimal and is not able to go towards our club trails. In addition, when you join the club, you will receive emails with preferred communication and weekly trail updates which you cannot receive anywhere else.

Q: How do I join the club?

A: You can join the club by filling out the electronic membership form on the Join page or by downloading and mailing in a membership from from the join page.

Q: How long is my membership valid for?

A: Yearly memberships run from September 1st to August 31st.

Q: I am interested in becoming a grooming operator. How do I do that?

A: Becoming a groomer operator is an intense process. In order to be a certified operator,  you must take a two day course with the ANF and successfully pass the post-test. After that you need about 20 hours of seat time with an already certified operator.  There are no known scheduled classes at this time.

Q: How can I support the club?

A: Supporting the club is most easily done by becoming a member. You can also sponsor grooming for the weekend. WCSC is now designated as a charitable organization under the IRS code as a registered 501(c)3 entity so any donation can receive will be given a receipt.

Q: I am registered in another state, do I need to have a PA registration as well?

A: There are only a handful of states which engage in reciprocity with PA. According the PSSA website, Alaska, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington have registration programs which recognize PA's registration program for snowmobiles. Therefore, riders who possess valid registrations from the above list of states may legally ride in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania will honor the registration from another state if that state honors a Pennsylvania registration.

Q: Do I need New York registration tags to ride in NY state or Allegany State Park if I have a PA registration?

A: Yes. At this time, there is no reciprocity between NY and PA. Therefore if you are going to cross off of PA and into Allegany State Park, you need both PA tags and NY tags.

Q: Where can I get a PA registration?

A: Two places near our trail system to obtain your PA registration in our area are Jim Coast Sales and Service or Bradford Notary.  For more information on registration and a list of dealers where you can obtain a registration, please visit the DCNR website.

Q: Is there anywhere to rent snowmobiles in the area?

A: Unfortunately,  we are unaware of any place that currently rents sleds.

Q: Is there an age minimum to operate a snowmobile?

A: Any youth under the age of 16 MUST have safety certification before they can operate a snowmobile on property other than their parents’ property.

Q: Is there a place to get gas on your trail system?

A: Gas is available in Lantz Corners or at Pine Acres. Please note, Pine Acres hours are variable at the  moment and therefore most of their availability is Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Please watch their Facebook page and ours for updated hours.
